Depression Recovery – Is it possible for you?
Last week I shared with you that my new book about my depression recovery had gone to be formatted and was almost ready for Prime Time. This week, I can tell you it is published and up on Amazon in both Kindle and paperback! While this has been a journey for me and I am proud to have reached the finish line, I’m most excited about the difference the book has the potential to make in so many lives.
Did you know that more than 20% of women over the age of forty in this country take some kind of prescription medication for depression and/or anxiety? It’s true, and for many years, I was one of them. Paxil ended up being my medication of choice although that was after trying several others that didn’t work for me.
Did you also know that one of the most common side effects of taking an anti-depressant is weight gain? What if you could relieve your depression by changing how you eat, get off your medication and by doing so, lose unwanted weight? For me it happened, and I so strongly believe depression recovery can be a reality for others that I spent untold hours writing and rewriting my experience and my journey to a life that is free of depression and is actually a bit slimmer.
Don’t misunderstand me…I’m not saying every day is perfect. Life still happens, and some days are better than others. But you handle it differently. Let me give you an example. Our best friend’s daughter got engaged last week. They had been together for about five years, and the announcement, while expected, was still exciting. We couldn’t be happier for her! The day after they became engaged, she found him unresponsive and having seizures. We learned yesterday afternoon that he has a brain tumor and was in emergency surgery; then last night we learned he has advanced brain cancer. From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows… I couldn’t sleep last night. I kept thinking about the situation and how cruel it is; how unfair. I can’t imagine how she feels.
I tell you this to make the point that today I am tired; I am sad. I can’t believe this situation and what they are going through; how a bright future became such a tragedy in a moment. But…I am appropriately sad; I am not depressed, and that is a huge difference!
If you struggle with depression, I hope you will imagine for a moment not feeling depressed. Not feeling enervated and hopeless. Feeling like you have some measure of control over how you feel. I couldn’t imagine that feeling before I experienced it, and my doctor had told me my depression would only get worse as the years went by. He was wrong.
