Depression sucks…the life out of you…
Two important people have suffered from depression and have died in my world/the world in the past three weeks. One is Michael, and one is Robin Williams. Anti-depressants didn’t work for either of these men. Michael, we suspect, was self-medicating to try to feel better, and Robin Williams hung himself.
Having struggled with depression for many years, in fact until about a year ago, I can tell you it’s a lot of work being depressed. It takes a ton of energy to function, and it sucks the life and the joy out of you. Being depressed is, well, depressing…
Someone recently wrote…”the saddest part about depression is the belief it will never end…” I can tell you it’s very true.
I can also tell you that anti-depressants don’t work. They didn’t work for me, and there was a host of negative side effects: brain fog, vivid dreams, nausea, constant yawning, inability to sleep well, and I was still depressed!!
What is wrong with the ads on TV that say, and I’m paraphrasing here… if your anti-depressant isn’t working, talk to your doctor about adding… some other drug. Are you kidding me? Why would you want to solve a health problem by treating it with a drug that’s supposed to help a drug that isn’t working to work better? If that sounds mixed up and crazy, good! Because it is!!!
The two most prescribed types of drugs in this country are anti-depressants and cholesterol lowering drugs. My world was turned around when my husband decided to get off statins because of the side effects he was experiencing. I decided to support him and change my eating habits. Little did I know that his decision and my willingness to support him would give me a new life and a new outlook I had no idea was there for me.
It’s been a long journey back from depression, but just touching on the high points, we started to eat “clean”. No processed stuff, no preservatives, nothing in a box…just whole food and as much organic as we good get and could afford. It’s a process, but we both really have new lives because of our dedication to this change.

We began eating to reduce or eliminate inflammation in our bodies. Along the way, we discovered that food allergies cause inflammation; in fact, studies now show inflammation is present in the brains of depressed people.
The drug companies don’t want you to know how their prescription drugs don’t work, and so they control the studies that are released; releasing very few studies that show they don’t work; allowing the few positive studies to be seen, but even tailoring the results of those marginally positive studies so they look better than they are.
The discussions about depression; talk of the challenges, the sadness and the treatments never mentions food; that is, what to eat and what not to eat to feel and be better in your life. You have to take responsibility for your own mental and physical health. Believe me when I tell you Big Pharma does not want you to be well! Your sickness is their profit. They want you to be sick and to believe not only that their prescriptions are the answer but that if you take their prescription drugs, you can eat whatever you want with impunity. It’s a lie…
