Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and the Magic Elixir!
Confession time…this has been a process for me, and I’m still working on it. One thing that I love that has been easy for me to incorporate into my daily routine is apple cider vinegar. And not just any apple cider vinegar; organic apple cider vinegar.
I often enjoy what I call an “elixir”. I make it partly because I really like it, and partly because I know it’s good for me!
I use only organic apple cider vinegar, and Bragg’s is a brand that’s easy for me to find at my local grocery store. Apple cider vinegar is the fermented juice of crushed apples. Among other virtues, it contains acetic acid and nutrients such as B vitamins and vitamin C. Because adding “stuff” to food is popular these days in order to make a greater profit, in my opinion, paying a little more to know what you’re using is organic is well worth it!
My elixir consists of lemon, tart cherry juice and apple cider vinegar. I cut a lemon into 8 pieces and use two or three pieces, squeezing the juice into a glass. Then I add about two to three tablespoons of tart cherry juice and finally add the crowning ingredient…about 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Of course, using all organic ingredients is preferable, but if I can’t find organic lemons, I go with organic tart cherry juice and the organic ACV and use regular lemons.
Be sure to use tart cherry juice. Cherry juice and mixes of cherry and other juices are easier to find, but then you’re adding sugars you really want to avoid.
Depending upon my mood (and the temperature outside, time of year, etc.), I add cool water (not ice cold) or warm water from the tap. I have well water, so you may keep filtered water in the fridge which would be great as well. Sometimes I use sparkling water which is refreshing too.
I add to this mixture during the day and add more lemon or vinegar if it gets too weak for my taste. Lemon juice and organic apple cider vinegar, although acidic on the outside, once introduced into your body help to create an alkaline environment. This is important because, for one thing, cancer cells cannot survive in an alkaline environment. We have created acidic environments in our bodies from all the sugar we consume (both the obvious sugar and the sugar hidden in our processed foods).
Apple cider vinegar may help to lower blood sugar levels and change how food is absorbed in our systems, so go make yourself a glass or warm cup of “elixir”, and enjoy it and its health benefits all day long!!
