7 Tips to Help Nurture Your Mind

When it comes to a discussion about health and wellness, people often think about their physical health. They switch up their diet, add exercise to their routine, and make sure they stay hydrated by drinking enough water. All this is so important for your health and vitality, but it’s important to remember your mental and emotional health as well! It’s important to nurture your mind!

Where do you begin if you realize you’ve not been including this in the vision you have for your excellent health? I’m so glad you asked!

Here are a few helpful tips for nurturing and nourishing your mind as well as your body!

Being Present is an Excellent Habit to Cultivate

Mindfulness encourages you to stay present in the moment and have more awareness around what you are experiencing in that moment. Focusing on the present can help from spending your mental energy ruminating about the past or worrying about the future.

Practicing mindfulness can help reduce stress and can nurture your emotional and mental health by allowing you to focus on the gratitude you currently feel in your life.

It’s not always easy to do. Be aware of how much time you spend replaying old incidents or hurts and how much energy you spend worrying about what might happen in the future. Letting this get out of hand can really suck up your energy and your time.

Begin by gently pulling yourself back to being in the present moment. For me, sometimes that feels like being in a tube, so I feel the space around me going up and down rather than spread out and wide. Does that resonate with any of you?

Add Journaling and Time to Reflect into Your Routine

One of the best ways to nurture your mind is by gaining some clarity through self-reflection. It’s important to allow yourself time for daydreaming during your daily life.

What better way to self-reflect than by writing your thoughts and feelings in a journal?

Journaling allows you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a brand-new way. When you get them down on paper, you may see them from a different perspective, and can start analyzing them. The act of writing things down really helps you work through them, face challenges, find solutions, and see new paths you want to explore in your life.

They have the most beautiful journals out now too. Get yourself one you love; one that makes you smile when you see it and where you look forward to spending time writing down your dreams, reflections and more.

Practice Gratitude in Your Life

Practicing gratitude is often underappreciated, but this most simple act of thinking about and writing down what you appreciate in your life can make all the difference when it comes to your mental health.

The art of noticing the good things in your life and truly appreciating them nurtures your mind in a way you might not expect. It helps you be present and mindful and lets you begin to appreciate things more as they happen.

You can use your journal to write down what you are grateful for each day, or simply feel a sense of gratitude each time a blessing comes across your path. I often write down five things in the evening before I go to sleep that were positive during my day; things that perhaps took me by surprise or just made me stop and smile for a moment. Sometimes it’s my sheep; sometimes it’s as simple as that first sip of coffee in the morning.

Have Fun and Explore Creative Outlets

All your time should not be spent being productive and crossing things off your to-do list. Your mind also needs rest and time to be creative. Anytime is a great time to focus more on your creative passions, hobbies, or peaceful activities like reading.

Find some creative outlets you enjoy, like using an adult coloring book, learning how to knit or crochet, learning a new language, playing music, writing, or dancing. All forms of being creative can help you nurture your mind. Good news on this…there are no rules here.

Find Peace Through Spending Time in Nature

If what your mind really needs is more peace and quiet, then spending time in nature is exactly how to get it. There’s something so calming and soothing about being outside. Whether you’re in an urban neighborhood or live in the country, you can hear the sounds of nature just about everywhere you go.

When you live in a busy city and you feel the sounds of traffic and people in general overpower the sounds of nature, simply head to a nearby park or lake. That should bring you back to those relaxing nature sounds that will soothe you.

Get your body moving!

Release Those Feel-Good Endorphins with Exercise

To get more of those happy endorphin chemicals released in your brain, get your body moving! When you exercise, you release endorphins, which make you feel happier, boost your mood, and actually give you more energy! When you can go this route, it allows you to lower your stress and reduce anxiety so you just feel better!

When you move, it doesn’t have to be a strenuous workout! Any form of exercise can release endorphins, but it’s frankly easier to accomplish with some form of cardiovascular activity, like cycling, swimming, walking, running, dancing, and aerobics.

One easy thing to do is just to put on a song you love and dance like nobody’s watching! Let go and move!

Dream! Be Sure to Take Time to Daydream and Visualize

Never underestimate the power of visualization. Take time every day to daydream about how you want your life to be going forward. You’re never too old to dream, to change, to create and to nurture your mind!

Have fun, and make creating your life an ongoing adventure!
