Eating Healthfully is Impossible

Eating Healthfully is ImpossibleEating Healthfully is Impossible…Here’s Why

We all have heard how important it is to consume good food to support our long term health and wellness…both mental and physical.  But what if eating healthfully is impossible?  What if the state of our food production is so compromised that we are incapable of eating healthfully?

In an article in the Huffington Post this week, this very topic was discussed in detail.  Here is some of what really stood out for me that I want to share with you:

“Food has been identified as a major cause of health problems in the U.S., with poor diet to blame for nearly half of all deaths due to heart disease, stroke and diabetes. Yet, even if we improve diet, we are still exposed to the damaging health impacts of what the report from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation calls the “industrial” way that food is produced. By 2050, warns the report, around 5 million people a year could die.

“The way we produce food today is not only extremely wasteful and damaging to the environment, it is causing serious health problems,” said Ellen MacArthur, founder of the foundation and former record-breaking sailor. “People around the world need food that is nutritious, and that is also grown, produced and delivered in a way that benefits their health, the environment and the economy.”

According to the report, overuse and misuse of antibiotics in fish and livestock farming contributes to the spread of resistant pathogens and antibiotics to humans via waterways and the environment. Antibiotic resistance – which could make it impossible to treat common infections – may cost society as much as $125 trillion by 2050, says the report, with food and agriculture responsible for up to 22 percent of those costs.”

I am always pointing out to my audience and my coaching clients that they need to avoid farmed fish and factory farmed meats.  Because of the close quarters in which these beings are raised, it is necessary to give them massive amounts of antibiotics to keep them from getting sick.  You must remember that you are not only what you eat, but you are what they eat as well.  If you eat fish and meat that has been given massive amounts of antibiotics, you are ingesting those when you eat them.

I hope you will take a few minutes and read the article in its entirety.  It’s a good one!
