How to Choose the Right Diet for You
Which diet is the right one for you? The truth is, I think dieting is not the best way to lose weight. To be on a diet implies it’s for a finite period of time which invites the yo-yo effect of weight loss, weight gain, weight loss, weight gain… and so it goes. Most people think it’s simply a matter of trying many different things and then choosing what works. Even more importantly than choosing what works is sticking with what works. What really works and what is best for your long term health is a life style change and a commitment to clean eating rather than a fling with the “diet du jour”. But, it’s your choice.
Here are a few tips to guide you on your journey to choose the right diet that will work for you.
What Are Your Diet Goals?
Don’t go running out to buy all new kitchen equipment, new exercise equipment and workout wear until you’ve done a little soul searching to find out what your diet goals are. If you are looking to lose a few pounds, say for your wedding, then a temporary weight-loss program may suit you just fine. However, if you are seeking to lose more than a little bit of weight and to keep it off long term, it might be in your best interest to explore and investigate the many options for dieting that are based on healthy eating as their main focus.
This bears repeating; if what you are seeking is to not only to lose weight but also to keep it off, then a diet that is highly focused on healthy eating and sensible exercise to maintain your weight and keep it off may be the best solution for you.
Do Your Research
Once you have honed in on your specific personal goals, it’s important to follow through with research. Research can come in the form of narrowing your choices down to two or three options; call each individual diet company, or read the particular diet book. Do your research on the internet and take notes on all the information you compile.

Research by word of mouth is also a great way to find what works for you. Once you find other individuals with your same goals, you can then pick their brains as to what diet or way of eating worked or did not work for them.

If you don’t want to find a diet, but rather a life-changing way of eating, that’s a totally different mind set. In my opinion, that approach will serve you better and will help you reach your target weight and maintain it long term.
No matter what type of diet and exercise system you choose, it’s imperative to have a strong support group. Whether it’s family, friends or even social media, you need to be proud of the fact that you are looking to lose weight and looking to keep it off for good!
You will be amazed how many cheerleaders you’ll find along the way who will support and encourage you… hey! they may even join you! If you are not feeling up to meeting your diet or exercise needs on a particular day, post it! You never know who might be there to say the right thing to help keep you motivated. Remember, you don’t have to do this alone. You’ll be amazed how many people will be interested in what you’re doing to diet, lose weight and to have a healthier, more energetic life.
